Big Ben by Aurélien Laurent

Big ben is one of the famous monuments in London the capital of United Kingdom part of Westminster palace. This tower is very big around 100 meters, but not the bigger tower of Westminster palace. We took this picture at 11h15 because I was very lucky; we were me and all my family in London during the end of 2011 year.

As usual, the sky is grey with a lot of cloud and starting to rain, it’s a typical weather in England. It’s built as a castle, because the architecture thought about castle. Big ben is near the Thames, between the Westminster Bridge and the Westminster abbey. It’s ringing every hours and rhythm the England life because of its history, but it’s not possible to enter inside, because the parliament is installed in Westminster palace, and only the allowed people are able to enter inside. This monument is built on a gothic architecture, with a lot of working statue, windows and characters.

It’s built in thirteen different parts, but the fifth first part of the tower are totally similar, we observed in each one four big windows per face. On the top of the tower, there is a big cross in gold on a crown look like the England crown from the queen Elisabeth 2.

We can see on the top a big clock (his real name is clock tower), this clock is recovered with a lot of gold, and the clock dial is entirely made of marble. In the four corner of the square around the dial, we observed on the bottom one dragon and one dog in gold. There are two big black needles that indicate hours and minutes. There are similar dial on each face, that show four dial in totality. Around the clock dial we can observe little gold windows. On the first roof just under the marble golden dial, we observed seven windows per face and on each part of the different roof we notice that there is in each corner a pillar.
