Good old Mrs. Lipchitz by Chloe Chbat

“Oh my! Look at this old picture!” my mother said to me one day. “Do you remember that one teacher you had in fourth grade? The one who used to scare you? Oh how I remember when you would come to me complaining because of that silly teacher! What was her name again?”

Miss. Lipchitz was by far the teacher I liked the most. You may ask why. Well it’s quite simple really! Miss. Lipchitz downright terrified me!

It was my first day of school and I already had many friends because I had been in the same school since preschool. Miss. Lipchitz was not new to the school; she was quite famous between us young students. All the older students used to tell us scary stories about the horrors in Miss Magdalena Lipchitz’s class. How she would devour young children if they didn’t answer correctly or how she would take their eyes out if they looked her in the eye…

Going into Miss. Lipchitz classroom was as if we were attending a funeral, we all had our heads down, and no one dared look evil Miss. Lipchitz in the eye.

As the year passed, no one ever got stuffed in the cafeteria’s meatloaf or came to school with no eyes left.  The closest we ever got to dying was being put in detention with Miss. Guyet. But that is a totally different matter. Of course as a normal fourth grader I would complain about my evil teacher with no reason what so ever to my parents, who payed no attention to my meaningless bickering.

In the end Miss. Lipchitz and I were not best friends, in fact she disliked me very much so we never really saw eye-to-eye but no matter I still found her delighting and most charming!

Every day I hear my daughter complain about her teachers I smile to myself and think of dear old Miss. Lipchitz so oblivious and naïve to the little snickers and gossip flying and buzzing behing her back! Have a nice day Miss. Lipchitz you will forever remain in our hearts!
