Petra in Jordan by Lucas Genevey

Somewhere in the middle of the desert , there is an old abandoned city. It is a rose-red city.It is the eighth wonder of the world. It is the most visited touristic site in Jordan. It is a vast site and was carved into the rock face by the Nabateens. The Nabateesns are Arab people and a nomadic tribe who settled here more than 2000 years ago (6 centuries BC). They chose this strategic area because it was an important junction located between the spice and the silk trade routes.

In the city we can see obelisques, temples, sacrificial altars, colonnaded streets and two excellent museums : the Petra Archaeological Museum and the Petra Nabateen Museum.

The Nabateens maintained control of the city during many centuries but finally the Romans took control of the city.

Later the crusaders built a fort above the city in the 12 th century.

The city was rediscovered by a Swiss explorer in 1812.

I chose this monument because I went to Israel with my family on holiday and we visited the site of Petra. It was beautiful!
