The Louvre museum in Paris
The Louvre museum is one of the biggest and one of the most visited museum in the world. It is situated in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, in the Louvre Palace which has been built by Philip II in the 12th century as a medieval fortress. The fortress changed a lot during the 16th century, François Ist demolished the central tower, after that the fortress became a renaissance palace. The museum opened after the French revolution, the 8 november 1793. During the second world war the collections of the Louvre leaved Paris, it returned to the museum after the liberation of France. The Louvre museum contains a lot of objects and collections like Egyptian antiquities, Near Eastern antiquities, Greek, Roman, Islamic art, etc. It contains also a big painting collection, the most famous is Mona Lisa of Leonardo Da Vinci. The Louvre museum is also famous for it entry, the Louvre Pyramid which was built in 1989. There is a shopping mall down the pyramid and also the entry to the museum. Description of the Louvre museum
